Two hours before class was to begin this morning, my guest speaker called in sick.
What did we do before the internet? The class topic was on managing people with physical disabilities and I quickly used Google to find this excellent podcast interviewing several quadriplegics that were in the documentary, Murderball. Both the interview and the video itself are very well done and give an insightful view of what life is like when you lose major functioning of both your arms and legs.
I'm curious as to what others do when the original lesson plan doesn't work out.

I always ask the guest speaker to recommend reading or viewing to prep the class, so if the speaker has to cancel, I can always work through that material myself. But your solution does take care of the alternate viewpoint (that is, alternate to my own) that I hope a guest speaker will bring. My solution gives my students more of me...

Thanks Richard for your idea. That way I will also be collecting a list of relevant articles and materials.
